The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00

The Senior Engineer, Operations Innovation will join a brand-new, high-impact engineering team focused on transforming Target's Supply Chain and Stores—starting with Supply Chain. As part of the Operations Strategy, Product & Innovation (SPI) group, we're moving fast to build what's next.

As a  Senior Engineer , you’ll be a hands-on contributor driving the design and development of robust, scalable backend systems. You’ll work through ambiguity, own end-to-end solutions, and collaborate across disciplines to turn ideas into working products. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in fast-paced environments, take pride in clean, reliable systems, and want to shape solutions that impact real-world operations.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services that support store and warehouse operations
  • Contribute to rapid prototyping efforts to explore new concepts and validate feasibility
  • Write clean, efficient, and testable code with an eye toward long-term maintainability
  • Collaborate with product managers, operations experts, and fellow engineers to deliver solutions from concept to scale
  • Work closely with automation and integration layers to connect software with physical systems
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and performance tuning efforts

About you:
  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Strong skills in designing and building distributed systems and APIs
  • Experience working in fast-moving, iterative environments with shifting priorities
  • Exposure to automation, IoT, or physical-system integration is a plus
  • Solid collaboration, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
